Wondrous Works in the Deep

A 5-Minute Sailing Meditation

For use during peaceful moments on Long Island Sound

I of IV

Centering

30 seconds

Whether you're sailing, motoring, or at anchor, take a moment to be fully present on the water.

Feel the movement of your boat, the wind on your face, the vast expanse of water around you. You are experiencing one of humanity's oldest adventures — going down to the sea.

"Some went down to the sea in ships, doing business on the mighty waters; they saw the deeds of the Lord, his wondrous works in the deep."
Psalm 107:23–24 (NRSV)

Reflection & Closing Prayer

2–3 minutes

As you continue on the water, reflect on these questions:

Closing Prayer
Gracious God, we thank you for the privilege of being on the water, for favorable winds and safe passage, and for the opportunity to witness your power and beauty in this marine environment. As we have seen your wondrous works in the deep, may this time on the water renew our spirits for the journey ahead. Guide us safely on these waters and in all our journeys. Amen.

Fair winds and following seas.

The water you are on has been going down to the sea since before the first ship was built. You are part of that ancient conversation.
